American Party of Labor statement on Iran’s defense against Israel

On April 1, Israeli warplanes bombed the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, Syria, killing seven Iranian diplomatic and military personnel. This attack was a blatant violation of Iran’s national sovereignty, and under international law constitutes an act of war. Twelve days later, Iran launched retaliatory drone strikes against Israeli targets.

These recent events are a continuation of the ongoing Zionist campaign of bombing, starvation, dehydration and methodical intimidation aimed at exterminating and displacing the Palestinian people and annexing their remaining lands from the Gaza Strip. The genocidal nature of the struggle is marked by the wildly disproportionate number of Palestinian civilian deaths relative to Israelis.

The potential entry of Iran into the conflict in no way alters its nature. Israeli rule over Palestinians is fascist, racist, and expansionist. Israel is a monopoly capitalist client state of American imperialism, created by the desire to have a foothold in the Middle East. U.S. imperialism’s support for Israel, in the form of loans and military aid, continues to fan the flames of war and undermine peace and stability in the region. The struggle of the Palestinians for the liberation of their territories seized from them by Israel on behalf of United States imperialism is a just war, which should have the support of all progressive peoples in every country.

The world over, U.S. aggression against the peoples of Iran and other countries are continuing, from Yemen, Haiti, to the Zionist genocide in Palestine. The rights of all nations to self-determination and national sovereignty are inviolable. This includes the right to armed self-defense. The U.S. imperialists have for years now imposed vicious sanctions against the people of Iran, waging a propaganda war against the Islamic regime there, and carrying out aggressive and militarist actions, including assassinations and terror bombings. The present military response by the Iranian state to the destruction of its embassy and the killing of its citizens is fully justified under international law.

The only solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the wider Middle East crisis is the destruction of the present Israeli racist state machine and the establishment of a free, independent, democratic, and secular Palestine in which people of all religions and ethnicities have equal rights.

No U.S. war with Iran!
End the genocide in Gaza!
Self-determination for the Palestinian people!
Imperialists out of the Middle East!
